Game Notes:

  • The Alfred State Pioneers battle the William Paterson Pioneers for the first time as both teams open up the 2015 season. Alfred State begins a new era with Jarod Dodson coaching his first game at the helm.
  • Alfred State finished 2014 with a 2-7 record while William Paterson was 4-6 (2-5 NJAC).
  • Alfred State will need to replace the offensive production of Rasheed Williams. Williams rewrote the record book the past two seasons before signing a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions. Joshua Hinds and Jacob Wims are expected to carry most of the rushing load for the Pioneers.
  • The receiving trio of Erik Simmons, (29 catches - 394 yards - 6 TD), Josh Ashley (20 catches - 221 yards), and Jason Gordon (11 catches - 240 - 1 TD) return after accounting for 60 of the Pioneers 107 catches last year.
  • John Garbowski returns to the Alfred State defense. The defense will look to make more plays this year improving on their sack (2) and interception (4) from last year.
  • William Paterson QB James Waldron is expected to make his first collegiate start. He will rely on returners Matt Deiana (803 yards - 4 TD) and Darius Kersey (30 catches - 470 yards - 2 TD).
  • Dennis Goodman and Carlo Caponetta return to the William Paterson defense. The pair accounted for over 100 tackles from the linebacker position last year.
  • Turnovers could play a major factor in the game. Alfred State (-5) struggled in the takeaway battle last season. William Paterson was a +2 behind 11 fumble recoveries.
