Game Notes:

  • This is the Pioneers and Mustangs 14th meeting with the first 12 coming when both colleges competed in the NJCAA. The two teams renewed their series last year with Morrisville coming out on top in the 2014 opener for both teams.
  • The Pioneers earned their first victory of 2015 last week behind a solid team effort vs. Maranatha Baptist. The Pioneers held the Sabercats to -7 rushing, recorded six sacks, and picked off three passes while the offense had a 300-yard passer, two 100 receivers, and a 100 yard rusher.
  • The victory was the first for 1st year head coach Jarod Dodson and the first for Alfred State vs. another NCAA DIII opponent.
  • Morrisville fell 49-42 in a slugfest at Brockport last week. The team enters the season finale with a 5-4 overall mark and a 4-4 record in Empire 8 play. The Mustangs had two 100-yard rushers and a 100-yard receiver in the contest
  • Josh Hinds recorded the Pioneers first 100-yard game of the season last week. He rushed for 122 yards on 21 carries. Alfred St. rushed for a season high 238 yards last week.
  • Mustang running back Cristian Pena is 63 yards away from a 1,000 yard season. He is averaging 104.1 ypg and has scored 14 of Morrisville's 19 rushing touchdowns.
  • Ben Wilkerson had his best passing day as a Pioneer. He was 27 for 35 for 329 yards and three scores. He also rushed in for a score and found the end zone twice on 2-point conversions. Josh Ashley and Romiio Littlejohn each had over 100-yards receiving.
  • Anthony Mella and Marcus Jackson-Connor have combined for 1,422 yards and nine touchdowns this year. QB Cory Benedetto has passed for over 2,000 yards and 15 scores.
  • Chris Monteiro had big day for the Pioneers defense last week. He led the team with eight tackles and picked off two passes. Akil Brown combined for three sacks while Sulaiman Aina had two.
  • The Mustang defense has recorded 25 sacks on the year but only have three interceptions on the year. Safety Caleb Wright has a team high 76 tackles while Julian Serrano has seven sacks and 15 tackles for a loss.
  • Alfred State recorded 31 first downs last week and ran 89 play compared to Maranatha's 54. The Pioneers had the ball for 37:45 in the game and was 11 of 18 on 3rd Downs.
  • Prior to the game the Pioneers seniors playing in their final game will be honored.
