Special Olympic Spectacular Honored by NADIIIAA For Second Straight Year
The 7th annual Alfred State Special Olympic Track & Field Spectacular was honored by the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) as the Runner-up in the Special Olympics Activity Category for the second straight year. Alfred State received their award during the NCAA Convention this week in Anaheim, CA.
The Track & Field Spectacular held in May had more than 300 students and 100 school support staff from local elementary and secondary schools come to Pioneer Stadium to participate in an Olympic atmosphere. Each student participated in a running and a field event (throws or jumps) and received ribbons for their accomplishments. Pioneer student athletes, the entire athletic department, and other members of the campus community helped execute the event and bring smiles to the participants and fans faces.
Director of Athletics Jason Doviak is pleased that the event continues to receive praise. "The Alfred State Athletic Department staff and student-athletes are committed to providing an outstanding track & field event for all of the athletes who participate on an annual basis. The relationship we have built with Special Olympics of Western NY is strong and the day-long event is rewarding for everyone involved. This event garners year round discussion from the surrounding communities and we aspire to make each one even better than the last."
Director of Athletics Jason Doviak, Associate Athletic Director Jen Enke, soccer student-athlete Brooke Scianna, and Coordinator of Event Management and Equipment Services Dan Roberts accepted the award at a ceremony that honored Alfred State and the other honored institutions. Babson College was the overall winner of the Special Olympics Activity Category and Averett University was the 3rd Place honoree.
