Men's Basketball:

The Pioneers tip off the 2016-17 season this week with contests vs. Houghton, Penn State Behrend, and Otterbein.

Women's Basketball:

The Lady Pioneers begin this season this week with road trips to Houghton and to the Albany Pharmacy Tournament.

Cross Country: Men's 6th, Women 11th at USCAA

The cross country team wrapped up the 2016 season with a successful performance at the USCAA Championships in Virginia Beach, VA. The men's team finished 6th while the women finished 11th.

Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) raced to USCAA All-American honors with a 13th place finish. He finished the 8k race in 26:41. Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was 29th (27:40), Kyle Glaub (West Seneca East) was 57th (29:00), Jesse Hallett (Honeoye) was 60th (29:13), and Joseph Kretschmar (Phoenix, AZ).

The Pioneers scored 209 in the event which featured 172 finishers and 22 teams that scored. SUNY Delhi won the championship with 46 points.

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) led the Lady Pioneers in the 6k course. She finished in 24:51 to earn 26th place. Emily Brigman (Lancaster) finished 49th in 26:24, Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 74th in 27:42, Kelly Healy (Maple Hill) finished 84th in 28:15, and Brianna Byrnes (Jordan Elbridge) was 89th in 28:34.

Cleary (MI) won the team title with 59 points. The Lady Pioneers scored 288 in the race that featured 159 finishers and 22 scoring teams.

Football: 1-9

Morrisville scored 35 unanswered points as they earned a 62-20 victory in the season finale for both teams. The Mustangs broke a 13-13 tie with several quick drives.

Morrisville jumped out to an early 13-0 lead but the Pioneers answered back with a pair of touchdown drives. Mar-Keise Jones (Yonkers/Saunders) rushed in from 78-yards and Jordan Jones (Poughkeepsie) caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Eli Frantz (Hubert, NC).

The Mustangs answered with a quick drive to take back the lead as the 1st quarter ended. They then put together two scoring drives in the 2nd and three more in the 2nd half before Marcus Evans (Buffalo/St. Joe's) dove in from one-yard out with 2:26 remaining in the contest to get the Pioneers back on the board. MSC added another long TD run late in the game to cap the scoring.

Frantz completed 12 of 28 attempts for 137 yards while Jones led the team with 85 yards rushing on six carries. Josh Ashley(Brooklyn/Grand Street) caught five passes for 48 yards while Jordan Jones had 47 yards receiving on three catches.

Steven Hubick (Fountain Hills, AZ) wrapped up his collegiate career with a team high 11 tackles. He finishes the year with 110 tackles and becomes the first NCAA Era Pioneer over the 100 tackle plateau. He also picked off a pass.

Justin Espinal (Beacon) added eight tackles and John Lauretti (Seaford) finished with seven.

Women's Soccer: 9-8

The Lady Pioneers split a pair of games at the 2016 USCAA National Championships in Virginia Beach, VA. They fell 6-0 to eventual champion Maine Fort Kent but rebounded with a 8-1 victory over SUNY Delhi to wrap up the season.

UMFK scored three goals in each half as they defeated Alfred State. Allison Danielak (Brockport) made 13 saves in net including diving and leaping stops.

Six different Lady Pioneers scored and 12 recorded points in the victory over Delhi. 

Dannielle O'Buckley (Queens/Ansbach) and Brooke Geibel (Arkport) scored twice while Kylie Newman (Waverly) and Julia Yanarella (Roy Ketcham) had a goal and an assist. Jenna Martin (Cattaraugus Little Valley) and Melissa Minetti (Livonia) also scored while Jocelyn Brittingham (Hornell), Stormi Kruger (Medina), Chloe Cox (Tucson, AZ), Darien Hooker (Canisteo Greenwood), and Taylor Dechow (Randolph) all passed out assists. Danielak made seven saves to earn the victory in net.

The Lady Pioneers were making their 4th straight trip to USCAA Nationals.

Swimming: Men 1-1, Women: 2-1

The swimming team established five new NCAA Era records as they competed at Oswego State. The Lakers defeated 166-103 in the women's competition and 167-122 in the men's.

Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) and Alley Sell (Hanover, PA) were each double-winners to lead the Pioneers. Dale won the 200 breast and set a new school record in 2:24.06 and won the 100 breast in 1:05.18. while Sell won the 100 breast (1:13.87) and the 200 breast (2:43.17).

The Pioneers had a solid day on the diving board. Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville) won the 1m diving competition with a score of 195.55. She also set a new school record in the 3m competition with 180.40. Nick Beach (Canandaigua) was 2nd in the 3m diving competition. He set a new school record with 219.90. Jackson Teboe (Falconer) was 2nd in the 1m competition with a new school record 219.30.

Megan Hendershot (Brockport) set a new school mark in the 1,000 free. She finished 3rd in 12:43.10.

Volleyball: 25-9

The Lady Spikers finished their season with a top 8 finish at the 2016 USCAA Championships in Virginia Beach. The Lady Pioneers were 1-3 in pool play defeating NHTI 2-0 and falling 2-0 to Carlow, Illinois Tech, and Florida College. In the quarterfinals, the blue & gold fought hard but fell 3-0 to St. Mary's of the Woods College.

Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) led the way for the Lady Pioneers with 38 kills and 26 digs. Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) passed out 81 assists and recorded 19 digs, Madison Webster (Corning) led the team with 33 digs, and Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) chipped in 24 kills and 10 blocks. Grace Hall (Ellicottville) finished with 20 kills, six aces, and nine blocks, and Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) had 16 kills seven aces, and 26 digs.

The Lady Pioneers were making their 3rd straight trip to the USCAA Nationals.

Wrestling: 2-3

The wrestling team went 2-3 this week in dual meet action. They fell 40-12 in their home opener vs. Brockport and then split four matches at the John Carroll Duals. At JCU they fell 43-4 to Otterbein and 36-16 to John Carroll but bounced back victories, 32-15 over Lourdes and 33-17 over Adrian.

George Van Valen (Ithaca) was 5-0 on the week to lead the way. He pinned Brockport's Cole Rock in 1:26, defeated Corbin Bunsold (Otterbein) 17-4, beat Kevin Khoma (John Carroll) 7-2, pinned Noah Nuno (Lourdes) in 2:37, and pinned John Cooper (Adrian) in 1:36. On the year, Van Valen is 7-0.

Konnor Kremer (Horsheads) also had a solid week finishing 4-1. He defeated Richard Mills (Brockport) 5-2, fell 7-1 to Braden Neuberger (Otterbein), pinned Darrell Lane (John Carroll) in 4:08, defeated Josh Brown (Lourdes) 11-0, and pinned James Pace (Adrian) in 2:12.

Brandyn Whitacre (Jamestown) and Josh O'Neil (Jasper Troupsburg) were each 3-2 on the week.
