Men's Basketball: 0-3

The Pioneers opened up the season with three hard fought battles. The blue & gold were tripped up 85-74 at Houghton, 71-67 at home vs. Penn State Behrend, and 70-68 on a last second basket at Oberlin.

Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) led the team with 35 points on the week while Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) finished with 32 points and 27 assists. Marcus Rhett (Middletown) chipped in 30 points while Tyler Elliott (Perry) added 26 points and a team high 22 boards.

The Pioneers shot 44.8% from the field for the week and connected on 22 of 53 three-point attempts.

Women's Basketball: 1-2

The Lady Pioneers opened up their 2016-17 campaign with one victory in their first three contests. The blue & gold fell 76-56 at Houghton and then split a pair of games at the Albany Pharmacy Tip-off Tournament, lost 70-66 vs. Villa Maria and downed ACPHS 67-37.

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) led the team with 47 points and 35 rebounds while Breana Gleaton (Waldorf, MD) chipped in 39 points and 21 boards. Kimberly Levee (Dansville) was tough off the bench connecting on 8 three-pointers and finishing with 30 points.

The Lady Pioneers will look to improve on their shooting percentages as they shot only 34.9% from the field. The team did hold a 139 to 125 rebounding advantage on the week and forced 82 turnovers.

Swimming: Men 2-1, Women: 3-1

The Alfred State swimming team swept Wells on Saturday afternoon. The men's team won 13 of the 14 events in a 94-26 victory while the women won 10 of 13 in winning 74-42.

Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) led the men by winning three events. He won the 100 breast (1:06.49), the 200 breast (2:25.82), and 100 IM (59.78). Tim Olin (Perry) and Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ) won a pair of individual events. Olin won the 200 free (1:56.91) and 200 back (2:11.57) while Cutler won the 200 fly (2:19.79) and 100 fly (59.30)

The men's 200 medley relay team of Olin, Dale, Cutler, and Kyle Sporysz (Cuba Rushford) won in 1:46.13 while Patrick McFadden (Midlakes), Cutler, Mason Sparks (Royalton Hartland), and Sporysz won the 200 free relay in 1:41.21.

Kaileigh Lehman (Beaver River) and Alley Sell (Hanover, PA) both won three events to lead the women. Lehman won the 200 free (2:14.82), the 50 free (28.20), and the 100 IM (1:10.67) while Sell won the 100 breast (1:14.39), the 200 breast (2:41.90), and the 100 fly (1:05.07). Myriah Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) won two events, the 100 back (1:10.72) and the 200 back (2:34.85).

The 200 free relay team of Rachel Caltagirone (Tonawanda), Camryn Elliott (Wayland Cohocton), Perry, and Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville) won in 1:56.92.

Wrestling: 2-3

The Pioneers had their only match of the week postponed vs. Penn College. The two teams are working on a make-up date in January.
